Overview

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that removes localized fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise. Dr. Kieu uses advanced liposuction techniques including power-assisted liposuction (PAL) and laser-assisted liposuction to precisely sculpt targeted areas while promoting skin retraction.

Who This Is For

  • Patients with localized fat deposits in specific body areas
  • Individuals at or near their ideal body weight
  • Those with good skin elasticity who will achieve smooth contouring
  • Patients seeking body contouring as a standalone or complementary procedure

Who This Is Not For

  • Individuals who are significantly overweight (consider surgical weight loss first)
  • Patients with poor skin elasticity who may have loose skin after fat removal
  • Those with unrealistic expectations about the amount of fat that can be removed
  • Individuals with medical conditions affecting healing or increasing surgical risk

The Process

1

Evaluation: Dr. Kieu assesses the areas of concern, skin quality, and fat distribution. A personalized treatment plan is developed for the specific areas to be contoured.

2

Planning: The approach — power-assisted, ultrasound-assisted, or laser-assisted — is selected based on the area and the density of the fat. The maximum safe volume of fat removal is established.

3

Procedure: Performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Small incisions are made in inconspicuous locations, a tumescent solution is infiltrated, and fat is gently aspirated through thin cannulas.

4

Recovery: A compression garment is worn for 3-6 weeks. Most patients return to work within one week. Swelling significantly subsides by 4-6 weeks, and final results are seen at 3-6 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the fat come back after liposuction?
The removed fat cells are permanently gone. However, remaining fat cells can still enlarge with weight gain. Maintaining a stable weight is essential for preserving results.
What areas can be treated?
Common areas include the abdomen, flanks (love handles), thighs, arms, back, chin/neck, and chest. Dr. Kieu will evaluate which areas will benefit most from liposuction.
Is liposuction a substitute for weight loss?
No. Liposuction is a body contouring procedure, not a weight loss method. Ideal candidates are within 30 pounds of their ideal body weight with stubborn areas of fat.
How much fat can be removed in one session?
The safe limit is generally 5-6 liters depending on your health status. Dr. Kieu prioritizes safety and may recommend multiple sessions if larger volumes are desired.
