Overview

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) uses your own fat, harvested via liposuction from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, or thighs, to enhance the shape and projection of the buttocks. Dr. Kieu performs this procedure with strict safety protocols, including ultrasound-guided fat injection to ensure fat is placed only in the subcutaneous plane.

Who This Is For

  • Patients desiring increased buttock volume and projection
  • Individuals with fat available in donor areas (abdomen, flanks, thighs)
  • Those seeking improved body contour and hip-to-waist ratio
  • Patients wanting enhancement without synthetic implants

Who This Is Not For

  • Very thin patients without sufficient donor fat
  • Individuals with unrealistic expectations about the degree of enhancement
  • Those with a history of deep vein thrombosis or clotting disorders
  • Patients who are not willing to follow strict postoperative positioning protocols

The Process

1

Consultation: Dr. Kieu evaluates your body shape, fat distribution, and aesthetic goals. The amount of fat available for transfer and the realistic enhancement that can be achieved are discussed.

2

Donor Area Selection: Areas with excess fat are identified for liposuction. The procedure simultaneously contours the donor areas (abdomen, flanks, back, thighs) while providing fat for transfer.

3

Procedure: Under general anesthesia, liposuction is performed on donor areas using the PAL technique. Harvested fat is carefully processed and purified, then strategically injected into the buttocks using a specialized technique that layers fat in multiple depths and planes.

4

Recovery: Patients must avoid sitting or lying directly on the buttocks for 2-3 weeks to protect the transferred fat. A compression garment is worn over donor areas. Final results are seen at 3-6 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do BBL results last?
A portion of the transferred fat is permanently established. While some fat is reabsorbed during the first 3 months, the remaining fat cells behave like normal fat tissue and can change with weight fluctuations.
Is a BBL safe?
When performed by an experienced surgeon using proper technique (fat placed in subcutaneous tissue only, not deep muscle), a BBL has a safety profile comparable to other cosmetic surgeries. Dr. Kieu adheres to strict safety protocols including ultrasound guidance.
Can I sit after a BBL?
You are advised to avoid direct pressure on the buttocks for at least 2-3 weeks. A specialized BBL pillow can be used when sitting is necessary. After this period, sitting is gradually reintroduced.
How much enhancement is realistic?
Most patients achieve a 1-2 cup size increase in buttock projection. The exact result depends on the amount of available donor fat and your individual healing response.
